    Description:
"Due to its ruggedness and reliability, the Rolleiflex Automat was a favourite with professional photographers during the 1950s.
The  Rolleiflex twin-lens reflex cameras, particularly the much-improved post-war-II models remain one of the great classic cameras. Their ruggedness, reliability and top-quality results made Rolleiflexes the preferred cameras of press photographers, fashion studios and many portraitists throughout the 1950s.
Between the end of the Second World War and late 1956, Franke & Heidecke marketed a gradually improving series of Rolleiflex Automat cameras with f/3.5 lenses, developed from the first Rolleiflex Automat launched in 1939. Equipped with either a 75mm f/3.5 Carl Zeiss Tessar or a 75mm f/3.5 Schneider Xenar and (until 1951) with a Compur Rapid shutter or (from 1951) a Synchro Compur.
The camera shown here is the most desirable of the f/3.5 Automats, the Automat 3.5 MX-EVS, the last of the series, made between late 1954 and 1956. This has MX flash synchronisation (bulbs or electronic) and a Synchro Compur shutter with exposure value setting (linked apertures and shutter speeds). This version of the Tessar was a major improvement on earlier Tessars, and well-preserved examples of this last of the Automats deliver formidable resolution and contrast.

The Automat design means the camera provided a unique film loading system, which, in the Rolleiflex, could sense the difference in thickness between backing paper alone and the paper plus the film. The user simply threaded the paper leader of the 120 film between two rollers in the bottom of the camera, pulled the paper across the taking aperture, then attached the leader to the empty film take-up spool at the top of the camera. The camera was then closed and the crank turned until it stopped. Turn the crank back to 1 o'clock and the film was correctly positioned for the first shot with the shutter cocked. A fast and reliable TLR film advance design.
You can enjoy  photography with a Rolleiflex, which is very effective for street and candid pictures. Although comparatively large, it can be very unobtrusive and is always very quiet. The Rollei is also excellent for photographing children at play, because it is easy to use at or near floor level. If you have not so far tried shooting with a Rolleiflex or other twin- lens reflex camera, give it a try. It is addictive." Ivor Matanle, AP 2008

    General Condition:

The body is in overall good condition, with minor signs of previous use.

The original leather covering is in very good condition.

The focusing hood works great as it should.

The focussing screen  has been replaced by a new plain BrightScreen MPD . We find it very comfortable to use even in bright sunny day. And surely a good modern alternative to the dull original one.

Both  lenses are in good condition without fungi, haze or  separation.

The Synchro-compur shutter has been cleaned and re-lubricated  and now works very well at all speeds.

The self timer is operational .

The flash connection has been tested and works fine.

    What we've done:

We did a full overhaul of the camera.

The front and the optical elements have been disassembled and cleaned up.

The cranking system  has been fully overhauled, cleaned up, lubricated and tested.

Same for the focussing sytem which has been adjusted after full overhaul, cleaning and lubrication.

We fully checked the camera and all movements are  fine.
